About Oakland
Oakland Church of Christ is an independent, non-denominational fellowship of believers in Jesus Christ.
We Seek...
As a community of faith,we are seeking to behold God as the creator of the universe; to belong to a loving and supportive community; and to become everything God intends for us. Included in these purposes are the following:
- We seek to honor God by worshipping Him according to His Word - the Holy Bible.
- We study the Bible to apply its principles to our lives.
- We seekto support individuals, marriages and families.
- We seek to help you realize your God-given potential.
- We seek to help you discover the blessings of a relationship with God.
- We seek to serve as a light and benefit to our surrounding community.
- We desire to be a resource for your spiritual and practical needs.
Our Beliefs
We believe in:
- God as the eternal heavenly Father who creates, sustains and orders all.
- Jesus Christ as the eternal, divine Son of God who died for the sins of the world, was raised from the dead and is now ruling His kingdom at the right hand of the Father.
- Holy Scripture - The Bible as the complete, written and inspired revelation of God.
- Salvation as the delivered state of every person who has responded to the good news of Jesus in faith, repentance, confession and baptism.
- The Church as the one body of Christ. The fellowship of believers called out of the world to love God and each other.
- The Holy Spirit as the personal, eternal Spirit of God who is active in the world and who indwells, fills and strengthens the believer.
- Last Things - The second coming of Jesus to eternally reward the righteous and punish the wicked.
Terms of Membership
One becomes a member of the church today in the same way people were added to the church in the first century. In summary, the early believers heard and responded to the gospel (good news) of Jesus Christ.
The core of that message is, “that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures, and that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures…” (1 Corinthians 15:3,4)
The response of the early Christians included the following and should be our response today:
- Believing in Jesus Christ as the divine, risen Lord. (John 8:24 Acts 2:41)
- Repenting of your sins. (Acts2:38; 3:19)
- Confessing Jesus Christ. (Romans 10;9,10; Acts 8:37)
- Being baptized (immersed) for the remission (erasing) of sins. (Acts 2:38;22:16)
We invite you to attend the special class, “Discovering Church Membership” on Sundays at 11 AM for more information.
